The rain postponed fixture managed to get underway in spite of threatening clouds. Josh Grajczonek's season ha been declared over with his thumb injury and Tigers operated Rider Replacement with Adam McKinna in as number 8. Berwick had Norbert Magosi still out and operated Rider Replacement just as they had in the original fixture. Adrian Rymel couldn't make it back from the European Pairs and Tomas Piszcz guested for him. Tero Aarnio was injured last night at Shielfield Park so ex-Bandit Danny Warwick deputised for him.
Gate pattern A in operation.

Heat 1
Paul Clews came in for the Rider Replacement ride. Robert Ksiezak made the gate and Lee Dicken tucked in for a great start for the home men. Tomas Piszcz had other ideas, however, and took advantage of the Tigers being 'round the wrong way' with Lee inside and Robert outside. The Pole blasted round Lee on turn 3 and set off after the leader, catching up with Robert on turn 3 lap 2 and driving hard inside as Robert went wide. Lee followed through and took up the chase but the Bandits' guest won at a canter.

Piszcz, Dicken, Ksiezak, Clews (3-3) (3-3) - 59.6

Heat 2
Mitchell Davey was sharp away with Anders Andersen running wide to join him. Scott Smith, however, cut inside and then ruthlessly shut the door on the young Dane on the Back Straight. Gugliemo Franchetti closed up and wasn't far away at the finish.

Davey, Smith, Andersen, Franchetti (4-2) (7-5) - 60.5

Heat 3
Adam McKinna was given the nod for the first Rider Replacement ride. Shane Parker was quickly into the lead but Adam was at the back. He did have a good first lap scrap with Clews but the more experienced man won out.

Parker, Makovsky, Clews, McKinna (3-3) (10-8) - 58.7

Heat 4
Trent Leverington and Anders started well and emerged from turn 2 side by side to take a comprehensive win for the home men. Danny Warwick slid off on lap 2 as he entered turn 1.

Leverington, Andersen, Smith, Warwick(F.Rmtd) (5-1) (15-9) - 59.6

Heat 5
Adam came in again as Rider Replacement and Smith came in for Berwick. Shane and Piszcz were locked in a titanic battle until turn 3 when the Pole edged ahead, going on to record a super win.

Piszcz, Parker, Smith, McKinna (2-4) (17-13) - 59.6

Heat 6
Robert made no mistake from the start and Lee rode the high line to block the Bandits. The Tigers' job was made easier when Warwick slowed on turn 2 and Franchetti cut right across him, slowing them both.

Ksiezak, Dicken, Franchetti, Warwick (5-1) (22-14) - 58.6

Heat 7
Trent and Makovsky traded elbows on the run to the turn, but the Berwick stalwart rode Tigers' skipper high into the turn. This left a hole for Mitchell to try, but Makovsky was too experienced to let it go and Trent also ran through. The Czech ran out the winner, but Trent was less than impressed with his tactic.

Makovsky, Leverington, Davey, Clews (3-3) (25-17) - 60.4

Heat 8
Makovsky came in as Rider Replacement. Anders gated swiftly as Makovsky looked to nullify the threat posed by Lee, taking him wide. Lee swooped back inside to head the Czech but Makovsky stole it back with an inside pass off turn 4.

Andersen, Makovsky, Dicken, Smith (3-3) (28-20) - 60.7

Heat 9
Adam came in again for the Rider Replacement ride. Shane made the start look easy and Adam showed some fight to hold Franchetti on the outside. The three supporting players enjoyed a good scrap but didn't change places.

Parker, Warwick, McKinna, Franchetti (4-2) (32-22) - 60.1

Heat 10
Lee was determined into the turn as Robert followed through. Clews tried inside turn 3 with nothing doing and Makovsky took over. He chased Robert and fired inside turn 2 lap 3 before taking him out to the fence but it was too late to make an impression on the big Yorkshireman.

Dicken, Makovsky, Ksiezak, Clews (4-2) (36-24) - 61.8

Heat 11
Piszcz was nominated for a Tactical Ride and Smith came in as Rider Replacement. The Pole was well away and Smith cut under Trent before Trent cut back under the veteran.

Piszcz(TR), Leverington, Smith, Davey (2-7) (38-31) - 59.6

Heat 12
Shane was majestic from the tapes but Anders got stuck at the back and couldn't get through.

Parker, Makovsky, Franchetti, Andersen (3-3) (41-34) - 60.7

Heat 13
Piszcz hit the front ahead of Robert and Warwick led Trent. The Aussie made his move on turn 1 lap 2 to sit inside Warwick but the Bandits' guest slid off again.

Piszcz, Kseizak, Leverington, Warwick(Fell) (3-3) (44-37) - 59.9

Heat 14
Trent took the Rider Replacement ride. Trent made the start his own and Mitchell tucked in for third, until he overdid things on turn 3 lap 2 and let Smith through.

Leverington, Clews, Smith, Davey (3-3) (47-40) - 60.7

Heat 15
Piszcz tied up his maximum with a superb tapes to flag victory. Makovsky lost third with an engine failure on lap 2.

Piszcz, Leverington, Parker, Makovsky(EF) (3-3) (50-43) - 60.3

Buildbase Tigers always seemed to have the match under their control and a solid team performance saw the points staying at Ashfield. There was no doubt about the individual star of the show, though, as Tomas Piszcz relieved each of the Tigers of their maximum hopes before finishing with a terrific maximum performance, and proving to be the perfect choice of guest. With only one more home league match to go, against the title-chasing Monarchs, Tigers are still capable of causing an upset and this performance gives some hope against their local rivals. Berwick suffered from the enforced changes in their own quest for a top four finish and Warwick disappointed as a deputy.
Good cheer for home fans was the signing of Josh Grajczonek and Mitchell Davey for 2009, leaving the rest of the team chasing only four places, so it's all to race for in the home and away Monarchs' matches.
